The Enough-Mindset

Stop frying your nervous system with a more-mindset. Shift to an enough-mindset and watch your performance, focus, and motivation accelerate.

Mantra: Striving for more will take you far, but forming an enough-mindset will take you the farthest.

Explanation:  An enough-mindset entails achieving the factors that are the most critical for success in that specific area.  Secondarily, it is aligning with where you are on your journey and your personal likes and dislikes. But having an enough-mindset means that you have to do your research to ensure that you are generating the highest level of accuracy.

Application: Research what are the 3-5 most critical factors to excel in that area according to the experts.  Given your level of participation, what are some of your next steps you might take to reach “enough?”  Now personalize it a bit to ensure that you’re adding some authenticity to the journey.

Example: Earning a spot on an Overall or Age Group Podium in an Obstacle Course Race (OCR) requires a lot of strength, fitness, explosive power, muscle to weight ratio, and mental fortitude. There are only so many hours and days to train. To be an elite athlete means having a sufficient level of capacity for each of these areas. If you're already strong enough in the critical areas (e.g., legs/glutes, core, upperbody, grip), but your muscle to weight ration is low, then you should be focusing on maintaining that strength while trying to cut body fat. Winning means prioritizing the element that will produce the greatest increase in your probability of winning. You can't do everything at once. At some point, you should be able to achieve "enough" in a given area and deprioritize it versus an area that you're not enough. Chasing more is a sure-fire way to fry your nervous system.
